Few people’s lives have not been touched directly or indirectly by
cancer. Even in these more enlightened days, the mention of the word conjures
up fear and horror for many, but thankfully we live in an area of increasing
facilities and support for sufferers. Cansurvive Research Association is a
wonderful organization based in Nambour which aims to “make available
to the general public detailed information, literature and supportive advice
in the field of non-invasive cancer therapies”. By promoting knowledge,
those challenged by cancer can make informed decisions about treatments and
everyone of us can broaden our understanding and reduce our risk factors.
Inevitably, such organizations need support themselves and so co-founder Eve
Williamson has arranged a delightful weekend of a cocktail party with fine
art exhibition. This will take place at the Cansurvive Rainforest Retreat over
the weekend of 23rd and 24th June, including entertainment and portrait painting
with food and drink also available and beautiful grounds in which to picnic.
Many artists from the Blackall Range are to display paintings including Ken
Farrow, Carmel Bunter and Peter Hudson. There will also be a diverse selection
of art supplied by “Art on Cairncross” of Maleny with such noted
artists as Kevin Oxley, Rex Backhaus-Smith, Nan Paterson, Judith Laws and Elizabeth
Duguid amongst others. Each of these has specifically requested to be involved
to support this extremely worthy cause. All of the art will be for sale and
there will be a broad range of subjects, mediums and prices to cater for all. “Tiffany
Jones Fine Art Gallery” of Buderim will also be featuring an enticing
collection of works including investment pieces by David Boyd and Pro Hart.
This is a weekend of enjoyable activities celebrating the positive aspects
of life whilst raising much-needed money for Cansurvive. The exhibition will
be opened by Mayor Joe Natoli and Dr. Ruth Cilento and offers the opportunity
to combine acquiring fine art with tasting organic wines, cocktails, local
cheeses and snacks prepared by Sisters organic restaurant of Palmwoods. What
better way to spend some time than to enjoy the beauty of nature, art and music
whilst supporting this marvelous charity? Come along and invest in your future…through
art and education.
